I would like to welcome you to EXCEL News Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2016
We have had an excellent start to the term building upon the GCSE, A-Level and BTEC results of 2016, which demonstrated the hard work of both students and staff. With 62.3% of grades at A-level assigned an A*, A or B grade equivalent, this placed the achievements of the Sixth Form students in the top 25% of colleges nationally for A level performance. We were very proud to open up both our school and Sixth Form to prospective new students and parents to show the opportunities available for all students at Rivington and Blackrod. I would like to thank all students who helped us during our Open Evenings; they were excellent role models for our school and welcomed new students to join our community.
Our commitment remains to ensure that we provide education which is of the highest quality and enrichment opportunities which help students to achieve their ambitions. We strive for excellence, in our classrooms, workshops and laboratories and through the range of activities which are available to all. I am very proud to be able to share some of the accomplishments of students through EXCEL.
The charitable work that our students have organised is amazing, from raising money through a charity bake off to organising a Citizenship event which raised money for their nominated charities. I also can’t fail to mention the excellent work of our Performing Arts students during Anti-Bullying Week who staged a very poignant drama in our assemblies. These are just some of the fantastic examples of activities which have taken place and I would like to thank those who have been involved in making each of the individual and group successes happen. We would also like to thank you for your continued support in helping us to meet the needs of every young person.
I hope that you enjoy reading EXCEL and wish you all the very best for the festive season.
