About the Library
The Library at Upper School has a wealth of resources, fiction, non-fiction, journals, reference books as well as access to networked computers.

Opening Hours
We are open throughout the day:
8.00 a.m. until registration
10.45 a.m. - 11.05 a.m.
12.45 p.m. - 1.30 p.m (except Thursday which AR Book Club)
After school:
Mon 3.15 p.m. - 4.00 p.m.
Tue and Wed 3.15 p.m. - 4.20 p.m.
Thu 3.15 p.m. - 4.00 p.m.
Fri 3.15 p.m. - 3.30 p.m.
Students cannot be in the library without supervision from a member of staff.

Borrowing
Students can borrow up to two items, for two weeks.

How do I borrow items?
Take any item you want to borrow, or return to the issue desk.

Can I have my items for longer?
Yes, just ask at the issue desk and get it renewed.

Library Events

Accelerated Reader Lunch Club for Years 8 & 9

Starting from this Thursday 22nd September 2016 Miss McNulty will be running an Accelerated Reader Lunch Club for Years 8 & 9 in the Library at lunch time. Any students that wish to use the Library to read/swap their AR book, or quiz on an AR book they have finished are more than welcome to come to the Library with their lunch and use this as quiet reading space.

The library will be closed on this day to any students that aren’t in Years 8 and 9 or are not using the Library for AR activities.

Book Fair

We host regular book fairs in our library, for further information please speak to Mrs Locke or Mrs McGrillen in the library. 

Book Club for Years 10 & 11

A book club for Years 10 and 11 runs each week in the library. Develop your love of literature and participate in discussions to develop your understanding of different books and authors. Speak to Mrs Locke, Library Manager for further information.

Author Visits

We have been privileged to host several authors in school this year including Andy McNab and Sara Barnard and further Author visits will be arranged.  For further information, please ask Mrs Locke and Mrs McGrillen in the library.

What's New?

  • Cathy Cassidy Visit

    A group of Year 8 girls went to meet popular author Cathy Cassidy on Wednesday 10 February. The girls listened to ‘The Queen of Teen’ discuss the writing process, how she uses her daydreams as inspiration and how she develops characters.

  • Author - Sara Barnard

    Sara Barnard came into school on Tuesday 9th February to talk to a group of girls from Years 10, 11 & 12. Sara discussed how she become a writer, her inspiration and the processes involved in the publication of a book. Sara explained how life experiences, friendships, hard work and sheer determination were key to writing her debut novel, Beautiful Broken Things.

  • Author, Sam Angus visits RBHS

    Sam Angus, author of the book Soldier Dog, came into Rivington and Blackrod High School to talk to year 7 students about her books and in particular her new book called, ‘Captain’. Sam was an inspiration to the students, telling them about how she had been inspired to write through her love of animals.

  • Book Club for Years 10 and 11

    A book club for Years 10 and 11 is now running every Tuesday lunchtime in the Library. Develop your love of literature and participate in discussions to develop your understanding of different books and authors. We hope you can come along.

  • Scrabble Club

    Scrabble club will start on the 17th September 2014 in the Library, and will be run by Miss Holden and Mrs Locke every Wednesday from 12.45pm to 1.25pm. Come along to challenge your friends at Scrabble. This is an ideal opportunity to develop your word power and have fun.
